Brazil’s star developer reversed his original plan to give a lecture at the NFT (Unreplaceable Token) conference and made a speech strongly criticizing the NFT. The audience gave enthusiastic support, but the blockchain companies that sponsored the event were furious.

Mark Venturelli, CEO of Brazilian game developer Rogue Snail, attended the conference of the South American game festival “Big Festival 2022” in Sao Paulo, Brazil on the 8th (local time). A number of blockchain companies, including cryptocurrency exchange Ripio, participated in the conference ahead of the main event.

Mark Venturelli was scheduled to give a lecture on the theme of “The Future of Game Design.” However, as soon as he began his lecture, he drew a red cancellation line on the existing topic and changed the topic to “Why NFTs are a nightmare.”

He criticized Coin and NFT as ‘unproductive speculative economic activity’. “If farmers go to the market and exchange their crops with each other, it will create value for all members of society,” he said. “But if farmers don’t go to the market and sit in circles and compete to see who gets their crops, the society loses a day.” He added, “NFT is a zero-sum game where someone makes money and someone loses money.”
